Tamil 101: Part 2

Ever wondered what Indians always say in the morning? Is it the old "Kalai Vanakkam" greeting? Well no. Indians say Good Morning too. Maybe the elderlies who are not so fluent in English would say "Kalai Vanakkam".

So here's the thing. Kaalai simply means morning. So to great someone in the morning, you say "Kaalai Vanakkam". If it's in the Evening, you say "Maalai Vanakkam". And at night, you can say "Irivu Vanakkam". Maalai means Evening, and Irivu means Night. These days, no one actually say these greetings, like what I said, only the elderlies, and also those people on the Indian talk shows on Television.

For youngsters like myself, we don't really find the need to greet, talk or communicate in Indian with other fellow Indian. Just sharing what I myself go through in my daily life.
